It’s Like Rock With a ‘W’

October 29, 2001

So, sorry about the laxness in the posting.

The weekend was full of the studiousness.
I got a lot done, and basically have nothing left to do this week except take a Mid-Term on Wednesday.

Weeeee!!

I also look forward to doing shenanigans with humans this week.

Wednesday, as I just said, I have a Mid-Term, so no all night Hollyween lovelyness for me, but I am going to go hang with peeps in what is known as a “Corn Maze”.

Then on Friday I plan on going and seeing a movie that we really, honestly, swear to monkey jesus, is not The Matrix. Seeing Jet Li hit someone with a Motorcycle will rawk.

Happy breathing, worm babies.

I to the D Required

October 26, 2001

Mrrrg…yesterday was a quiet uneventful day where I didn’t die. Thus it is pretty much not worth mentioning.

The only fun thing what happened was that I got a new debit card, so I can go be a faithful consumer of stuff again. Which is good, because my proverbial cupboard is quite bear.

Next week I go get a state I.D. so I can go back to Wisconsin without being thought a terrorist. That means, of course, I will not be able to get liquour until then. I really want some bailey’s. Can anyone email me some Bailey’s?

oh well…

I Want A Young Lady’s Illustrated Primer

October 24, 2001

So, for next week’s seminar I’m reading Insanely Great by Steven Levy. It’s subtitle is The Life and Times of Macintosh, the Computer that changed Everything.

You know what? I’m sick of computers.

Seriously. I mean, jesus monkey christ, are we in the 21st century now or what? Technology has given us ubiquitous and powerful computing, why in the hell do we still have “Computers”?

Take the Palm, for example. Now that isn’t a computer. It’s a Personal Digital Assistant, or PDA. I love my palm. A lot. Why isn’t THAT the standard for technology assistants? No boot time, no crappy interface, just quick, easy to use common sense technology that actually improves your life.

What I would love to see is an all in one type computer, the size of a laptop’s screen that had no boot time, and did everything a desktop or laptop could do, but using a touch screen interface. This thing would have to be thin, about the thickness of a closed notebook (paper notebook). A stylus would be more than sufficient for inputing stuff. Basically, a digital Tablet. Why don’t we have that yet?

Had a good day. Been reading for hours. Tired now.

Whedon Is My Master Now

October 24, 2001

Sigh…

So much to do, so very very little time.

Being sick last weekend, and then out of town this weekend finally caught up to me. Had to make the executive decision to have an assignment be about 12 hours late so my head wouldn’t explode. I hate decisions like that.

This weekend I am going to be hermit action Zonk and get caught up on my reading and get a jump start on next week’s assignments. From what my lovely profs have told me, from a big assignment standpoint we are entering the home stretch for this quarter, so I am optimistic. This is the first late assignment I’ve had this year.

I know I have previously mentioned Joss Whedon’s lovely works (Buffy and Angel) but I feel I must again comment, as they are simply wonderful. There is very little television on right now that actually makes you think, or even care for the characters involved. Seeing the exploits of the Scooby Gang and Angel Investigations week in and week out is not only envigorating, but heartening. Never does an episode of either show fail to deliver either merriment or heartache or at the very least rapt interest.

I bring this up this week as both Angel and Buffy were particularly good. Angel, especilly, stood out to me as amazing television.

Monday’s episode of Angel featured the introduction of the parents of one of the characters, a young lady who went through an extremely scarring experience (it involved dimensional travel, but that is neither here nor there). Her meeting back up with her parents was touching and special, the moreso because her parents were accepting and supportive of a lifestyle which to say the least is not “normal”. This 180 degree change of pace from the usual string of lowlifes and scumbags we see on Angel made the experience all the more moving.

Why can’t more Television be like this?

I Don’t Drink But I Should

October 22, 2001

Well, I had a really nice weekend….kinda..

The flim festival was awesome. Definately worth the trip….again…kinda…

Probably the best part was the film Quatermass and the Pit, the finale of the festival. The Quatermass movies are great, sort of a 70’s England X-Files with some Cthulu subtones. Very cool.

The other thing I really enjoyed at the festival was the Flash Animation series, The Investigators. It follows a pair of stoic but occasionally humorous investigators as they stop evil nether forces from screwing up the 1920s. Very cool.

So, the reason this weekend was only kinda worth it. I lost my wallet. I canceled my check cards pretty quick, and I didn’t have any money it it, so I hopefully won’t lose any $$ from this, but essentially I prepared a lovely Identity Theft Kit for whoever finds it. Hopefully that won’t happen, either. sigh….

Off to attempt to drown my stupidity in some cola.

Add -tastic to Make It a Word

October 19, 2001

What a day.

Yesterday (the 18th) was a very dichotomy-tastic day. The first 6 hours I spent awake I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. My programming/homework partner bailed on me, and I had to finish an assignment we had due today by myself on extremely short notice. Got it done, but it was a might touch and go for a while there.

Then last night I spent doing nothing. Abso-fragging-lutely nothing. It was nice. This has been a weird week, getting over being sick and all.

Tonight and Tomorrow I won’t be able to post a log because I’ll be in Portland! I’m going to the Annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival there. Gonna stay over Friday night with the Matts and come back Saturday night. I’ll give you a report when I get back.

The other big news I found out about this week is that I get to go see Weezer! They’re playing in the Key Arena up in Seattle on the 15th of November, the day before I return to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving break. Almost as exciting as getting to see one of the first bands I ever listened to would be getting to see/hear their opening band….Tenacious D! Awww Yeeah. I hope this one goes better than the bitterly canceled They Might be Giants concert, which I was supposed to attend the week of the September 11th WTC attack.

(You know, I’ve seen WTC alot lately in the news, and I still have problems associating those letters with the World Trade Center , and not …you know.)
