There’s a large gap here because of an inadvertant post deletion I performed in June of 2003. On November 11th of 2002 I had my first day at The Douglas Stewart Company as an intern in the IT department. I began working with the software programming group, using the programming language Progress to write minor queries against the huge database of customer information they had.
I did an okay job with that, so the following February I was offered a full time position working both with the web team and the programming team. By the time my blog posts pick up again post-deletion I’d been working with both teams for several months, though it would be some time before I actually did worth with the web team.
As much as DSC was a frustrating and confusing environment to work in, it was an okay first job. It got me the money I needed to start a life for myself and Katie, and it gave me the drive to get out into the world.
