Shields Failing

July 30, 2003

Okay, I’ll admit it…I’ve cooled on Star Wars Galaxies.

I realized one day before we left for the con last week that I wasn’t “doing” anything. I was running around, making stuff, and selling it. That was it.

So, I went to play Geneoa, my combat character. I’m trying to make him into a Rebel (since Amak is an Imp), but in order to joing the Rebel Faction you have to have enough faction points. In order to gain faction points, you can either go on seek and destroy missions (done a few of those…but I die a lot, cuz as a new character furry kittens are more combat effective), or “FedEx” missions, where you deliver some data from point A to point B. Now, I’m on Tatooine, and as I said I’m trying to become a Rebel. (SWG Players are already rolling their eyes in pain.)

On Tatooine, the town of Anchorhead is really the only place to become a rebel. Anchorhead has about 7 buildings, a cantina, and the shuttleport. That’s about it. So, I’m faced with either doing FedEx missions to other cities that cost as much or more for a ticket as the mission pays, or I can do in-city FedEx missions….for people who can literally see each other across the town center. I mean, I pick up a package, I turn around, I walk about 20 meters, and I drop off the package. Rinse and repeat.

It’s pretty frustrating. I’m thinking of canning Galaxies for a while so I can either work on some of the single player games I’ve been neglecting, or perhaps (and this would likely not happen until I was back from CA) try out Everquest.

Okay, now that you’ve stopped frothing, I should point out that 400,000 people is a pretty strong indicator that there is something to the game. It has what I now see myself to be looking for, action, quests, things to do

Anyway, not sure about any of this yet. Just thought I’d let you know.

All By My Lonesome

July 28, 2003

Me mum is in Colorado.

Came as kind of a surprise when I got the email from her yesterday. Evidently she mentioned it to me last week when Katie and I were over at a friend of the family’s for dinner. Eh. She’s seeing an old friend, and generally enjoying the cool air. I am very happy that I have the kind of mom who I can suddenly find out is in Colorado. Pretty cool.

I’m going to be mostly by myself tonight. No biggie, that, as I have much that I want to get done. Hopefully I’ll get my con writeup finished, and mayhap get started on the photos. We shall see.

Tracking the Wild Sessler

July 28, 2003

gaaaah..

I feel like slightly warm death.

However, this weekend was a rollicking festival of good n’ plenty nerd-dom.

I’m back at work (after taking the morning off), so not much time to talk.

I took a bunch of pictures, and have a bunch of stuff to tell. I also plan on finally getting up some of the other pictures I’ve got lying around. Hopefully will be getting that done this week.

The most galling part of today is that I’m only going to be back for about a week. I’m heading off to California a week from this Wednesday….and I may die.

sniff.

Anyway, more talk later.

Except for one thing: I saw Adam Sessler.

I’m Lying About Liking the Job

July 21, 2003

Just got in to work, and I must say, couldn’t be in a better mood. (I know, crazy, huh?)

Had a lovely weekend, got a very nice sleep, and now I’m in here, at a job that I honestly like coming in to. What is there to not be happy about?

I have a small project on my plate that I’d like to get done before I leave for Indy on Wednesday, but there’s no rush with it, so I’m feeling good about that too.

I’m also in a good mood because I just got an email from Julianne Scibetta, which indicates to moi that she reads my web site! (Hi Jules!) This makes me happy, as despite time and distance I consider that lady to be a friend (just one I never get to see and one I rarely get to talk to), and knowing that she’s keeping up with me is heartening.

A final note: If you read Sluggy Freelance, you probably already know about Pete’s financial woes, but if you haven’t been over there yet today, do so. The best damn comic on the internet is in trouble, and Pete’s work is well worth a measly one-time $5. Support the niftyness!

Pound of Flesh

July 20, 2003

Another night of the cormyr campaign over with, and the end of a luverly weekend. The “How to host a murder” party went very well last night (yay kat), and a good time was had by all. Turns out Alan did it. (Silly git, turning to murder). All “I” did was cut a hunk of flesh out of a dead woman who I’d been in love with.

We go to Indy this week. Weee!!

Spheres of Meat Are Tasty

July 16, 2003

Hi ho!

Me again. (As opposed to all the other people who post here)

Made pasketty and meatballs last night, and a darn good imitation of said staple food, if I do say so myself. This whole cooking thing is pretty cool. I think I’ve gotten over the learning hump where most basic preperations are logical to me, and it’s just specific applications of the techniques that I need to work on. I’m probably done cooking until next week. Have to pick something interesting.

The ladies have been gearing up for a fete they’re putting on this weekend (which I guess I’m attending…), a Murder Mystery party thingie. Should be interesting. (Or at least non-lethal.)

Next week is GenCon! I am going to be without net access, most likely, so you’re not going to get much in the way of impressions during the week, but I am going to bring my camera and lots of batteries, so you’ll be getting a gallery for sure. The gallery is highly likely to have much commentary, so worry not.
