Morrowind Makes Me Amoral

August 29, 2003

Happy Friday!

Here’s hoping that you are enjoying your last week-day for the week. I know I am looking forward to a long weekend. I’m just sitting here, coasting through the day listening to some radio, and anticipating a quiet weekend of reading. I got a book from the library today….please don’t laugh.

Probably also going to be getting down on some Morrowind again, too. I think I’m going to re-create my character. I’ve found that I really like being a sneaky rogue guy, and I think I’m going to recreate my character with that in mind.

My favorite thing about being a sneaky rogue guy is finding an out of the way house in a town and killing the owner, so I can have a place of my own.

Hehe.

You ever get the impression the world is a terrible place?

Today is not good. Not good at all.

Finding Time For Myself

August 28, 2003

The Past:

Yesterday sure was quiet. Picked Katie up from Edgewood after her first day. She had a very nice time, I am told, and her profs seem pretty cool. Huzzah! We got home and had some dinner ala Brian, Morrocan Couscous. Nummy. Afterwards, Katie and I played EQ for about 3 hours or so. We both made level 3, and had a much much better time. The control scheme is actually pretty understandable once you get the hang of it, and I begin to see why people find the game so engaging.

The Present:

I don’t know what’s up for me today. I’m picking Katie up again after work. I know Brian is working tonight. I was thinking about making dinner tonight, but I know not what. The girl and I were planning on stopping at the grocery store on the way home, mayhap we’ll come up with a good idea there.

The Future:

This weekend I am going to be mostly alone, and I’m trying to decide what to do. Brian and Kat are going to be in Iowa City, and Katie is going to be at a play on Saturday and then working mostly all day on Sunday and Monday. Which leaves lil’ old Zonkie all by his lonesome. I’m probably going to do a lot of reading. Maybe I’ll get back into Morrowind. (Don’t want to play EQ without the girl.) We’ll see.

I do so love commuting on a Saturday

August 28, 2003

As I said, I’d be in at work today.

Luckily it’s just some testing. DSC brings down it’s eSales / ELO stuff on the weekends to avoid disrupting customer usage. So, regrettably, this is when testing has to be done. We’re almost done. The system’s being rebuilt one more time so I can double check a niggling little detail. I got here around 12:30, and it’s about an hour later now. Hopefully we’ll be gone by 2.

Pegasus is having a sale today, which rox because I was planning on going anyway. (D&D Minis taste like fun!) Afterwards I will hie myself to the market to get some food for tonight. Beef Stroganoff ala Alton is in the offing, I think.

Walt Whitman wasn’t in Shanghai Knights

August 27, 2003

Two things:

1.) Shanghai Knights is a small crime upon humanity. I love the first move, but this second one makes me want to crawl into a tiny tiny hole. I place the blame squarely on the director, as everything else about the movie was the same damn group as the first. Phoo.

2.) Walt Whitman is one chatty bitch.

Hail, A Chaos Priest

August 27, 2003

Heya.

So, Katie and I got to play EQ for about an hour last night. Her computer (my old computer) is a bit on the slow side and it took roughly 700 hours for EQ Evolution to install. But, we finally got in, and the game runs better than I expected on her machine. I am playing a hafling warrior named Gaippan, and she a hafling druid named Dainelle. Now, I played SWG, and pretty much intuitively understood what the hell I was doing from the get-go. A few subtle interface lessons and I was good.

I now understand why people say that getting into MMOGs can be frustrating. The EQ interface is….thick. Very thick. I’m not ready to call it bad yet, but there is a lot there, and a lot to learn. We wandered around town mostly, working on understanding the layout of Rivervale and handing in our guild notes to our guildmasters.

I imagine that at some point we’ll actually head out into the Misty Thicket and start killing stuff. That should be cool. Katie is really enjoying it so far, which is good. I know I’m feeling a little over my head, and I’m supposed to be a dork who knows stuff, and stuff. “shrug”

The point is, we’re playing together, which be cool y0.

In other gaming news, Katie is almost finished with Neverwinter Nights and is already eager for Shadows of Undrentide. d00d.

Myself, I’m looking forward to this Sunday’s D&D game, as it should be profoundly trippy. [Insert Evil GM Laughter Here] Ahem.
