Tonight is the first presidential debate for the 2004 elections. If you have the time or opportunity, watch them. Check out Bush in action, sleazing and lying his way through the event. The post below has links to frustrating and saddening pictures of more violence in Iraq and Palestine. This may well be the most important election in recent memory.

Watch, decide, vote. Whatever you decide, vote.

Weekend Heroism is Tiring

September 29, 2004

Day in pictures
The most striking images from around the world on 29 September 2004.

Lackidasical again, I know. I keep meaning to do a Monday entry, but I just don’t have it in me some weeks. Then when I post on Wednesday I have to talk about a bunch of days…

Anyway, let’s back up. The party on Saturday was simply great. We had a really lovely time all around, and it was so nice to see all the people we did. I want to thank everyone who had a chance to make it, especially the Rice-Rainys, the Zimmermans, and Emily. It was very cool to invite you all into our home.

Sunday some folks were feeling a little under the weather and partied out, so the game didn’t last as long as it might otherwise have. We moved ever forward, though, and are on the cusp of fun and exciting drama come this weekend. Should be a good roleplaying session, I think.

Monday and yesterday were pretty much quiet. We’ve been greatly enjoying playing City of Heroes with folks of late. It’s really nice to do virtual fun thingies with folks we know IRL.

I’ll talk about this weekend later, trying to get something sorted out here at work. I’m looking forward to the weekend quite a bit, though.

Tuccus Means Butt

September 25, 2004

Happy Birthday to me!

We’re currently working our tuccus’ off to get the place looking nice for company. We’re done with the kitchen and bedroom, just have to take care of the bathroom and living room and get the food set out.

Oh, and the new matress is so very very nice. I had no idea that matresses could be that comfortable! woohoo!

Next week the mightiest of my birthday presents comes: Le Couch o’ Doom!

Paul has some photos up regarding his teaching gig, and his night life out and about.Since it was my birthday party last night (photos later today) he gave me a call and we had a nice chat before his phone card gave out. Sounds like he’s doing really well. The most interesting thing he mentioned to me about Japanese society probably had to do with music and the pricing of local music vs. international music. Apparently, the 30-50 dollar price tags that japanese music has in the states is not entirely a result of the importation expenses. Japanese music routinely goes for that much in Japan, while US music goes for only 15 bucks or so because of the demand. Crying shame that they can get their hands on bands from many thousands of miles away easier than they can their own countries music.

Also, to the japanese folks who regularly read my website as a result of Paul’s teaching: Moshi Moshi. Hajimemashite watashi wa Michael-san desu.

Don’t Go To Texas

September 24, 2004

From an AP Story:

“On television sets around the world we see acts of violence yet in most of Iraq, children are about to go back to school, parents are going back to work and new businesses are being opened,” Bush said. Allawi said 14 or 15 of Iraq’s 18 provinces “are completely safe.”

What the hell is that?

That’s like saying the US is fine because 37 or 40 of the 50 states are safe enough to live in. Also, kinda makes a difference which provinces, huh? If Rhode Island was gripped by political unrest it would be cause for concern, sure, but California or Texas being hotbeds of violence and terrorism would probably be a little more urgent.
